Start of Clinical trial with Medihoney Antibacterial Honey on Chronic Wounds

In a world first, the Clinical Trial will evaluate Medihoney Antibacterial Honey Barrier™ in the Management of Malodorous Wounds.

Brisbane, March 2002 – Medihoney Pty Ltd and the Prince Charles Hospital Palliative Care Unit today jointly announced the start of the first Clinical Trial to evaluate Medihoney Antibacterial Honey Barrier™ in the Management of Malodorous Wounds.

The study will evaluate the use of Medihoney Antibacterial Honey Barrier™ in reducing malodour and controlling exudate in malodorous wounds. These wounds are typically difficult to manage and there are few options available to Clinicians.

Malodorous wounds are often chronic and can be of acute embarrassment to the patient. The clinical trial will compare dressing these wounds with Medihoney Antibacterial Honey Barrier™ against standard dressing practices. The preliminary results showed that Medihoney Antibacterial Honey gave a significant and rapid reduction in odour.
